About SpecKids Unlimited

SpecKids Unlimited is the umbrella for all of The Hamilton Spectator’s philanthropic efforts, including The Summer Camp Fund, the Jeff Dickins Memorial Award and Kids in the Community, our employee-driven initiative. SpecKids Unlimited was launched in November 2006 as part of The Hamilton Spectator’s anti-poverty initiative, which was also in support of the Poverty Roundtable’s goal of making Hamilton “the best place to raise a child.” The name was chosen because it focuses on the unlimited potential in every child – as long as he or she is given all of the opportunities they deserve.

The mandate:

The mandate of SpecKids is simple yet critically important: to improve the lives of children and youth in the community.

Research has shown a connection between poverty and school readiness and educational outcomes.

On-going Initiatives

In supporting SpecKids Unlimited, you will help ensure that more children in our community have the opportunities that any child in Hamilton should rightly expect and deserve. Funds donated to SpecKids Unlimited support the following initiatives.

  • The Summer Camp Fund – which sends kids at risk to a week-long, fun-filled adventure at camp
  • Jeff Dickins Memorial Award – bursaries for students who excel in academics, athletics and community involvement.
  • Kids in the Community – our employee-driven campaign, which relies on support from our generous sponsors, to fund a variety of initiatives in the community designed to improve the lives of children in need.
